Playa La Bocana
Playa La Bocana is a laid-back stretch of the Costa Chica in the Mexican state of Guerrero, where the open Pacific crashes against a thin sandbar and, just beyond it, the calm water of a mangrove-lined estuary spreads inland. The name describes exactly what you see: a "bocana," or mouth, where salt and fresh water mix in one frame. On one side there are rolling ocean swells and wide, mostly empty sand; on the other, glassy channels you can paddle or motor through under tall, shady mangroves. The result is a beach with two entirely different personalities. This is a quiet, low-budget and decidedly un-glamorous kind of paradise, with no high-rise resorts and no nightlife — just rustic palapa restaurants, camping spots and RVs, and a handful of lancheros who take visitors out on the water. It suits nature lovers, families with kids, road-trippers working their way along Federal Highway 200, and anyone who wants the raw Pacific coast of Guerrero without the crowds of the big resort towns. With a 4.5 rating from more than 1,200 Google reviewers and well over 2,000 visitor photos, La Bocana has a small but devoted following.
