Valunnyy Most
The Valunnyy Most is a graceful single-arch bridge built entirely from round granite boulders, assembled without any mortar in the early nineteenth century. Designed by the celebrated Russian architect Nikolai Lvov at the ceremonial entrance to the Gruziny estate near Torzhok in Tver Oblast, it spans the small Zhalenka River and stands as one of the finest surviving examples of Russia's so-called "boulder architecture." With a Google rating of 4.8 from over thirty visitors, this quietly remarkable bridge draws photographers, history enthusiasts, and travelers exploring the countryside between Torzhok and Staritsa. The drive up is straightforward—the access road was freshly paved in 2021—and the bridge is visible from the main highway.
