Divaška Cave
Divaška Cave (Divaška jama) is one of the historic show caves of Slovenia's classical Karst, set in the hills above the town of Divača just off the Divača–Lokev road. Discovered in 1884 by the local explorer Gregor Žiberna and opened to visitors just three years later, it has been drawing people underground for almost 140 years, with a quiet, atmospheric charm that the bigger, busier cave systems of the region often lack. The cave invites you into the secret underground world of the Karst. It forms part of the same network of collapse dolines, chasms and passages carved over millennia by the Reka River—the very river that disappears nearby to resurface in the world-famous Škocjan Caves—and it is prized for the extraordinary richness of its dripstone, shaped by calcareous sinter over millions of years. Along the way you descend into a cool, silent realm of stalagmites, draperies and crystal-studded chambers, guided by the caving club that still runs the cave today.
