Kabale Regional Museum
Perched in the terraced highlands of southwestern Uganda, the Kabale Regional Museum is the place to understand the Kigezi region and its Bakiga people before you go in search of mountain gorillas or paddle across Lake Bunyonyi. A living archive of a proud hill-country culture, it gathers ethnography, archaeology and contemporary art into one renewed home, displaying the tools, regalia and ceremonies of a community long overlooked by the capital's museums. The museum tells the story of Kigezi itself—how these hills and valleys came to be settled, how their people migrated and farmed, and how they married, danced, traded and resisted. After years of closure and a long renovation, it reopened to the public as a refreshed cultural venue, with a dedicated Kigezi Heritage Gallery at its heart.
