Things to Do in Thousand Oaks, United States

CoBa Arch

CoBa Arch is a natural rock arch perched on a ridge in the Simi Hills above Thousand Oaks, reached by a scrubby, signless hiking route through the Oakbrook open space. Visitors describe a stone span roughly 8 feet tall and 15 feet wide, with a dramatic drop-off just beyond it and wide views across the Conejo Valley, Oak Park and toward Simi Peak. This is not a stroll to a viewpoint. The arch sits at around 2,200 feet elevation at the end of a steep, sometimes overgrown climb with real scrambling, so it suits hikers who want a workout with a payoff. The reward is a secluded, almost hidden landmark plus scattered natural rock formations along the ridge—a favorite of locals who like that few signs mark the way.

McCrea Ranch

McCrea Ranch is a remarkably preserved piece of Hollywood's Golden Age tucked at the foot of the Norwegian Grade in Thousand Oaks, California. For over sixty years, this working ranch was home to Western film icon Joel McCrea and his wife, actress Frances Dee — two stars who traded the glamour of the backlot for cattle, hay, and avocado trees. Today, roughly 280 acres of their original holdings remain as a public landmark with museum exhibits, historic outbuildings, and a calendar of events that keeps the spirit of the ranch alive. The ranch sits at 4500 N. Moorpark Road and is open to the public through scheduled events and programs run by the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Joel and Frances McCrea Ranch Foundation. All buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making this a rare opportunity to step into a genuine Hollywood-era homestead that still feels lived-in and unscripted.
