Staying in a place with geographic contrasts was pretty special! Views of high mountain and the Pacific Ocean reminds you of how small you really are. The rooms were pretty great as you expect from the photos and description, but it was the dining experience that we remember more than anything else - admittedly reviewing this a while after we stayed! The attentive, patient, generous and very knowledgeable staff simply made us feel very special.

We stayed in one of the tree houses this past February 2026 and had a wonderful experience. I had expected something more rustic, but it was actually very comfortable and thoughtfully designed.|The setting is beautiful. From our tree house we could see deer and mountains in one direction, and the ocean and olive groves in the other. It really did feel like being up among the trees.|Inside, everything was well done—the seating area, balcony, and even the small kitchenette. The bathroom was a highlight, especially the shower with a view. The bed was also extremely comfortable.|The pool, hot tub, and sauna area were peaceful and a great place to unwind. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and appreciated how accommodating they were with different dietary needs.|One evening we did the stargazing experience, which I would definitely recommend.|The staff were consistently warm and helpful. Lisa, in particular, stood out, but everyone we interacted with was lovely.|Overall, this is a very unique property in a beautiful setting, and we’re really glad we stayed here.

We visited the Hapuku Lodge in February 2026. We stayed 3 nights but could have easily added another day or two. The place is tranquil and the scenery is breathtaking. There are so many positives about this place. The dining experience is wonderful- the chef and team are exceptional. The staff is outstanding...accommodating, friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this lodge, you won't regret it.

An outstanding lodge with friendly, knowledgeable staff, excellent food, unique treehouse accommodations, and an exquisite location that was a highlight of our NZ trip. The spa was lovely and professional. All in all, a beautiful retreat that we would not hesitate to visit again.

World class views, facilities, rooms, food, and most of all, staff!
The setting is spectacular, with stunning Big Sur like Mountain views on one side of your room, ocean on another side. Excellent 104 degree stone hot tub, 94 degree lap pool in a green natural setting, sauna and spa. Breakfast and dinners included and top quality. Chefs were fantastic, even taking two lobsters we had bought on the drive down from Blenheim and cooking a dish to be added to our dinner.
The bucolic property is full of birdsong, with sheep and deer grazing in the fields where resort trails will take you down to the ocean.
Rooms were super modern and elegant, with automatic bidet toilets, automated shades, internet tv, fast WiFi, fireplaces, balconies, amenities.
Staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, always searching for ways proactively to improve the stay, add an amenity, arrange a booking. The free stargazing tour by Rachel was especially noteworthy, with her taking astrophotos which she sent us later which were museum quality to remember the wondrous night.
We will absolutely return, drawn to Kaikōura’s considerable attractions by this destination resort.

Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses is one of those rare places where nature, comfort, and hospitality come together effortlessly. Set in a beautiful, peaceful landscape with deer freely roaming the property, the lodge feels immersive from the moment you arrive. Waking up surrounded by greenery and wildlife makes the experience feel deeply connected to New Zealand itself.
The rooms are exceptional. Spacious, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable, they offer both privacy and a strong sense of place. After a day outside, the sauna and pool are a perfect way to slow down and fully relax, with views that make you forget time altogether.
The service is warm, attentive, and genuinely caring without ever feeling intrusive. Dining here is a highlight in itself. The food is outstanding, seasonal, and beautifully prepared, turning every meal into part of the experience rather than just a necessity.
Little touches make the stay even better, like being able to rent bikes directly from the lodge and explore the surrounding area at your own pace. Hapuku is not just accommodation, it is a complete experience that stays with you long after you leave.

What a lovely experience. We stayed in a treehouse lodge and the room was absolutely lovely - very bright with a view of mountains on one side and beach the other. Very personal touch with home baked biscuits and very modern amenities. I would say there are a lot of stairs so having big heavy suitcases was a bit of a challenge but staff were very helpful to get them up. Staff were very friendly and kind, especially Abby who was very knowledgeable and Janet who was helpful. Dinner was spectacular, lovely food and very accommodating to halal preferences and breakfast was equally as nice. Very enjoyable stay, lovely location - wish I could have stayed longer.

We stayed in a treehouse suite and it was very cool, like a suite on its own 30 feet up. We were on a backroads hiking trip and this was our last 2 nights. They definitely saved the best for last. Best service of the 11 hotels we have stayed at(including 3 Rosewoods). Food was excellent, nice spa.
