This place was cool. We didn't do the dinner in the room bit because they are unable to accommodate my wife's gluten free request. Basically it's a traditional Japanese style hotel. They set up for dinner in the room, change it to sleep mode later. Then start all over again the next day. They give you some robes for the onsen which was cool. I got up the onsen 2 to 3 times a day. It's not open the whole time so check with the front desk. The staff were amazing. Super friendly and helpful. We got the lovely wave as we left. I would recommend this location. Oh yeah, literally less than 5 minutes from the train station.

The hotel is quiet and clean with nice Onsen (natural hot spring baths). The location is near the train station but not near enough to hear the trains. The dinner and breakfast were both good. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. It was raining (pouring actually) on us prior to our arrival and they dried our shoes, dried our umbrellas, and wiped us off when we walked in.We're definitely staying there again only for longer next time.

We feel very fortunate to have stayed at Kanazawa Chaya. Our four-night stay allowed us to experience the incredible depth of the seasonal menus; every breakfast and dinner was a masterpiece of elegance and flavor, truly showcasing the height of Kaga cuisine. We were deeply impressed by the skill and dedication of the culinary team. Our room was beautiful, impeccably maintained, and provided a perfect sense of traditional comfort. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the entire staff. Their hospitality was both warm and quietly professional, making us feel completely at ease. Despite our limited Japanese, communication was seamless thanks to several staff’s English proficiency, thoughtful systems the ryokan has in place, and the ever useful Google translate app. For anyone seeking an authentic, top-tier experience of Ishikawa’s traditions and hospitality, we cannot recommend Kanazawa Chaya highly enough. It was a privilege to be your guests, and we look forward to returning in the future. Our deepest thanks to the entire team

I was greatly surprised by the good reviews. The stay was mediocre. The rooms look like they haven’t been renovated for 30 years. Room view was a parking lot which was ugly. Public bath was tiny and same. Also the service was impersonal at best and we had an issue with the front desk where my friend and I booked similar rooms at a similar price but ours was a lower meal plan. The staff did their best, but didn’t have the most satisfactory responses. Futon wasn’t comfortable like other ryokans I’ve stayed at - they were foldable and had a big gap down the middle.

Only reason I didn’t give 5 is the shower|Handheld over a small bath|Service is incredible and Japanese prawns fish to die for!|Towels very small and thin|Please note|There are no laundry facilities here|We’re just back from the coin laundry,which is a 5 minute walk from the ryokan|Also takes cards,so not really coin|No detergent required|It’s already in the machine! American white wine nice|Sake good You can go to the attached restaurant with your ukata on Have fun!

I traveled with my daughter and my 3½-year-old granddaughter, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with such tender care and genuine hospitality that it felt like staying with family. The ryokan is in a perfect location — just a short 5-minute walk from Kanazawa Station, surrounded by wonderful shopping, dining, and easy access to all of the city’s main attractions. It made exploring the area effortless while still feeling peaceful and traditional once we returned each evening. Every meal was a masterpiece — the in-house chef’s attention to flavor, balance, and presentation was extraordinary. During breakfast and dinner, we were lovingly cared for by Caiori, whose warmth, patience, and attention to detail made every moment special. She remembered the smallest things — that our granddaughter prefers cold towels instead of warm ones, loves water with her meals, and can be quite particular with food. The chef even created beautiful, customized dishes just for her, prepared with the same artistry as the adult meals. They thoughtfully provided two adorable kimonos for our granddaughter, along with beautiful ones for my daughter and me, allowing us to fully embrace the elegance of traditional Japanese culture. From the gracious welcome to the heartfelt goodbye, every moment reflected the grace, pride, and devotion of the entire Chaya Ryokan team. If you’re visiting Kanazawa, I wholeheartedly recommend Chaya Ryokan. It’s more than a place to stay — it’s a warm, unforgettable experience that will stay in your heart forever.

My family and I stayed in Kanazawa Chaya Ryokan for 3 nights in August. At first, I was a bit hesitant to book because it is a half-board hotel, meaning they'd provide breakfast and dinner at the ryokan. I was worried that we'll have the same meals for three days. I went with my gut and booked anyway. Our stay at this hotel turns out to be a wonderful experience. First of all, the staff are friendly and attentive. The level of care is meticulous. My mother, who is in her seventies, needed a rollaway bed instead of a tatami futon. No problem! It was all set by the time we returned from lunch. The rooms are clean and spacious. Please don't expect the rooms to be full of gadgets or even high-tech, because it's a traditional ryokan. Having said that, we have remote control lighting, a quiet and efficient AC, and wifi is speedy with no hiccups. The best part of our experience are the meals. Every breakfast and dinner is different. And you can tell the chef and team had put a lot of hearts into making the dishes. From ingredients to presentation, they are full of varieties and flavors. Dinners are traditional Kaiseki and it's done very well. Even the bowl or plate used are uniquely picked out for the each dish. Kudos to everyone who works at the kitchen. And I must not forget to mention our attendant during our dinner. The level of elegance and precision to serve us is impeccable. I highly recommend staying at this ryokan.

Unmatched service. Luxurious meals. Traditional stay right near the train station. Our stay here was a highlight of our trip to Japan!! So glad we found this gem!!
