The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The hot spring pools are wonderful. I did not like my room as much mainly because it had 2 uncomfortable full size beds instead of queen beds like all the other hotels. The food was great. Location was too far from main area of town so forced to eat on site. They did bring a additional bed to put in the room and that mattress felt better to my body than the full beds.

While they have gluten-free items (THIS IS NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY). Service at the restaurant was terrible. My food was dropped on me, while the waiter apologized, there was no compensation at all offered. They didn't even offer to re-make my meal. They brought towels to clean my dress, but then left the dirty towels on our table for the remainder of our meal. We often had to ask for things 3-4 times before getting it, while the waiters were just standing around chatting. While their menu has gluten-free and they even serve gluten-free bread, if you have Celiac you will get sick! A family member was contaminated and then a few days later served a dish with a garnish that was wheat. 2 out of the 4 dinners we had there where served with wheat. The pool backs up to the restaurant so people have to walk through the restaurant in bathing suits to get around. The restaurant food is fancy and higher priced, but the service was terrible. Service at the bars was just as bad. All other front desk and hotel staff were very friendly, prompt, helpful, and knowledgeable. Rooms were clean and nice. Spa was good. The grounds were wonderful and full of plants. Quite beautiful. I enjoyed the hot springs (although some were a bit scolding hot), but they were beautiful. Some even have jets or tables to put a drink inside the hot springs. Despite how great the hotel is, we wouldn't recommend to anyone due to the how bad the restaurant was.

We spent a great week here at Volcano Lodge. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly and really helpful. We loved the swimming and thermal pools, the volcano views and the relaxed atmosphere. We also appreciated how the set up of the hotel and the staff made everything easy for all the family. The breakfast buffet offered a good choice and catered to different tastes, and lunch/dinner options were varied - the food was delicious. It was easy to arrange activities via reception and to access La Fortuna via taxi. We would definitely stay again!

This was our second stay at Volcano hotel.We stayed her 10 years ago and the rooms look the same. They have added other amenities. The check in was easy and quick. There is a shuttle van that carries you and your luggage to your room. The beds are very uncomfortable , super firm, even for a 17 year old who can sleep anywhere. We stayed in a junior suite which had plenty of room for our family for 3 days. It had a private thermal springs plunge pool. Breakfast each day had a good assortment of protein and carbs, including an omelet station. The resort grounds are gorgeous. One of prettiest resorts I've stayed at. There are 2 thermal fed pools and 1 regular pool. They are sloths in the trees and lots of birds. You have a perfect view of Volcano Arenal. If you are looking for updated rooms and high end 5 star luxury this isn't it. If you want a clean stay in a friendly and beautiful environment this is the place.

We loved this hotel. It was the perfect size for our family of 4. We stayed in a junior suite with 2 queen beds and our own private hot springs. We used the hot springs every night. The room was very nice and spacious. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options but they are the same every day so by day 4 we were looking forward to trying something new. We had great food at the restaurant for dinner - we ate there 3 times. It was good and reasonably priced. Highly recommend the Welcome Spa package- it was amazing and worth the $90.

Mediocre resort , the rooms are spacious , but low on towel supply . Provided you have a car - then getting into La Fortuna is easy. Breakfast included in our package was predictable and unimaginative . The staff serving seemed unbothered although there was a big nudge about tips . Th e grounds are huge , with lots of local birds.|There are 2 main pools, small but adequate , and good facilities for small children . |There is an area of ‘ thermal springs ‘ in man made jacuzzi type pools centered around a wet bar. A very nice facility to have at any point in the day, useful when raining, ( and we had. 2 days of torrential rain ) or to relax after a trek, although the water always looked pretty murky. |In good weather - the volcano would be seen.| The resort, the decor and menus are dated and dull generally. But you don’t go to Costa Rica for the food !

We had a pleasant stay. The cleanliness was noticeably better than in most other hotels we visited in Costa Rica and much closer to the standard we are used to in Europe. The breakfast buffet offered a wider variety than any other hotel we stayed so far during our trip. The reception staff were always friendly, welcoming, and very helpful.
