This is not really a hotel. I wouldn’t even call it a business. There is no desk or attendant, just a messy pile in a corner. If you need anything you have to summon a person from elsewhere in the city, who shows up when it’s convenient for them. If you need something (like a corkscrew) you might get it later in the day or tomorrow. There was no hand soap. I asked for some and it never came. Six days and they never managed it. It’s not true that there is coffee in the room—you can boil water and pay 3 euros for a tiny instant coffee or tea in a paper cup. There was supposed to be a Nespresso machine in a narrow hallway to serve several rooms. There were pods but no machine. I inquired and was told that the guest in 204 had taken it into her room. It was incredibly unprofessional for the staff to say which room, but it gets worse. I was told that housekeeping would return it tomorrow. The next day it still wasn’t there, so I asked again. Apparently the same guest had again removed it and was on camera doing so, I was told, but when I insisted that there should be coffee available, the employee turned mean and sarcastic saying do I want her to go and kill the guest? Then, the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen a hotel employee do, she shared the WhatsApp note she sent the guest, so now I know not only the room number of the other(thief) guest, I now had her name, phone number, and I know she is from the Netherlands. I suppose I could find her easily. If this person shared her information with a stranger, she might share yours. So I had suggested that perhaps the “hotel “ (it is not that) could get a second machine. I found out later that they have three machines, but Francesca had withheld that information from me and from pure spite had not put a machine out for the next four days, even after Amber (the Netherlander) had left. I was told this by the owner. He tried to get me to understand why he couldn’t do anything about this because Francesca is his fiancée for 8 years. So he couldn’t overrule her decision deprive me and all other guests on my floor of coffee for six days. There is no way to communicate with this owner without going through Francesca. Only one way to contact the so-called hotel. I had drawn such ire from her by pointing out that her communication style was rude. In English at least. Which it is. But she claimed there is nothing wrong with her English and accused me of threatening her—I am a business traveler and had called her attention to the potential consequences of communicating in this way with guests. The owner informed me that she had put a “hex” on me and instructed the staff not to help me. There is more, but perhaps you are getting the idea. These people have no idea how to run a hotel. There are no services, no restaurant, no lobby, security is very lax , communication is terrible. It is sloppy excuse for a business, but it isn’t even cheap. You’ll pay the price of a luxury hotel to be treated as worthy of no service. Granted, that was just my experience. Perhaps Amber from the Netherlands had a better experience. You could ask her. I am sure Francesca will give you her number. Of course, I have it too …..

Amazing stay! The hosts hospitality was the best in an Italy. All the staff are very friendly and happy to help. On arrival they suggested some sites and restaurants to visit. When we visited, the temperature in the region was cold, but the rooms were very warm and toastie. Immaculately clean. Highly recommended and excellent location. Thank you for an amazing stay

A nightmare stay. Gianmarco and francesca are rude, dishonest people, they ruined our stay in Matera. The advertisement is a total lie. There is no castle view, there is no sofa -just a bed, there is no city view -in fact the balcony doesn't open and the room is dark feels like a cave, the hotel is not in the old city, it faces a building in the new city on a busy street, there is no parking, by any means it is not luxury are you kidding with all those trash bags full of dirty towels you have to step on to get in the apartments? A total joke. When confronted, they were so rude and threatening that I simply couldn't believe it. They were trying to get more money from us, threatening with police for using something from the mini bar which they initially said it's complementary. Scammers and a joke business. My impression of people of Matera is not very good because of them. I hope you read the other reviews here first because other people went through similar issues, and don't go to booking reviews because booking said they can turn off bad reviews there, can you imagine that...

It was only about a 3-minute walk from Matera Central, making it very convenient to go back and forth between the accommodation and nearby attractions. The area was quiet in the evening, which made it perfect for relaxation. The accommodation itself was luxurious — something rare to find in Europe — and very clean. The host was also very kind, providing helpful information about sightseeing spots, restaurants, and even assistance during check-out, which made our trip truly enjoyable.

Was a very bad experience. We booked a room but we never got to stay. Terrible communication and they charged me just because the employee wasn't in mood to exercise his duty. I will never choose it again!

The room itself is nice and clean, but rather small; you cannot leave your luggage anywhere if you have 2 suitcases. When we arrived and took a shower, it was clogged upon our arrival. Also, the fridge did not work so I had to throw away my cheese. I sent the staff a message but was told that the fridge was working. Later I saw someone else from the staff who told me that the fridge had to be reset. I didn’t get a message nor an apology from METEORON. Furthermore, the air conditioning practically did nothing (lowest set temperature was 21 C, which it never reached) as the air was only blowing up and not towards the bed, and we couldn’t leave the window open because of traffic and the fact that the shutters were the only curtains. The electricity also shuts down if you’re not in the room so you cannot charge anything while you’re away nor cool the room in advance. Like other guests mentioned, the parking is a public parking of a church in the street which is not supervised. You can park in the street for the same price. When we wanted to check out to discuss the above mentioned feedback, nobody was at the front desk (they almost never are). However, the breakfast at Fortunello is really nice and the staff is super friendly. All in all, METEORON tries to be a luxury hotel but seems rather amateuristic and has a few things that need further attention in order to call it “luxury rooms” and to justify the price per night.

We stayed at Meteoron Luxury Rooms and had an outstanding experience. The cleanliness was impeccable, making our stay feel comfortable and welcoming. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, always ready to assist. The location was perfect, allowing us easy access to nearby attractions. We also enjoyed dining at their restaurant Stano, which offered delicious meals, and the bar where we had breakfast was equally impressive. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great stay!

METEORON Rooms in Matera was such a lovely place to stay. Everything in the room was perfect and good quality. Our host spent quite some time explaining the town to us, and was a delight to talk to. The location was good and very close to the town square with views over the old town. Plenty of restaurants and breakfast cafes in local streets and around the square.
