AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Perched on the Circuito Chico scenic road about 25 km west of San Carlos de Bariloche, the Bahía López Viewpoint (Mirador Bahía López) is one of the most photographed stops on the loop that strings together the best lookouts over Lago Nahuel Huapi. A simple timber deck cantilevered over the hillside, it frames a calm, clear bay fringed by pebble beaches and shut in by the rocky walls of Cerro López and Cerro Capilla. A consistently high 4.8-star rating from thousands of visitors reflects how reliably this modest platform delivers a postcard of Patagonian lake country.↗↗↗
What sets it apart is the combination of vantage and accessibility: free roadside parking right at the deck, no ticket or long climb, and an immediate payoff of water, forest and mountain. The mirador was built in 2017 as the very first project funded by Bariloche's tourist tax (Ecotasa), and refurbished in 2023 with durable synthetic decking, fresh paint, lighting and signage, so it stays as welcoming as the views themselves. Below the lookout, the bay is a beloved local summer spot with kayak hire and its own small dock.↗
