AT A GLANCE
Why go?
North Brother Lookout is one of the best coastal panoramas on the New South Wales mid-north coast that you can reach by car. Perched at the summit of North Brother Mountain inside Dooragan National Park, a short climb above the river town of Laurieton, it hands you a sweeping 180-degree view over the Camden Haven Inlet, the patchwork of coastal lakes, the glittering Pacific and a wall of green ranges — with almost no effort required.↗↗
It is as much a gathering place as a viewpoint: a picnic area with toilets and shelter, open lawn to stretch out on, gliders drifting overhead, and a network of walks that range from a wheelchair-accessible loop to a serious bushwalk. Easy, family-friendly and reliably spectacular, it is the kind of stop locals happily bring visiting guests to again and again.↗↗
The view from the summit
Set high in Dooragan National Park, the lookout delivers what VisitNSW calls some of the most accessible panoramic views on Australia's east coast. The immediate foreground is the magnificent Camden Haven Inlet, with the Camden Haven River winding between Queens Lake and Watson Taylors Lakes. From here the eye runs along the coastline in both directions — down to Crowdy Head in the south and as far as Mount Yarrahappini in the north — a layered sweep of sea, lakes and bushland that genuinely takes your breath away.
