AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked behind the lively Casa da Cachaça in the center of Brotas, Museu do Caipira is a small, free, family-built museum dedicated to the everyday life of rural São Paulo's interior. Housed in a century-old wooden tulha once used to store coffee, the collection gathers more than 100 original objects rescued from regional farms — wooden mortars, charcoal irons, battery radios, iron pots, milking benches and old cachaça stills — and pairs the display with the chance to drink country coffee ground on the spot and sample sweets cooked in a wood-fired copper cauldron.↗↗↗↗
It is one of the most recommended free stops in Brotas, the adventure-tourism capital of São Paulo state, and a pleasant change of pace after a day of rafting, rappelling or waterfalls. Visitors rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps, praising the nostalgic feel, the friendly service and the aroma of the wood stove.↗↗
