AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Gärten der Welt (Gardens of the World) is a sprawling park in Berlin's eastern Marzahn-Hellersdorf district where visitors can travel the globe in a single afternoon. With 22 garden installations designed by landscape architects from around the world — including faithful recreations of Balinese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Islamic, Christian, and Jewish garden traditions — it is one of Europe's most ambitious collections of international garden art.↗↗
A cable car carries you above the treetops with panoramic views over Berlin, while themed restaurants, an imaginative water playground, and regular concerts and events make this more than just a botanical stroll. Originally the Erholungspark Marzahn, the site was dramatically expanded for the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) in 2017, adding modern architecture, art installations, and new garden galleries.↗
A World Tour in One Park
The heart of Gärten der Welt is its collection of eleven themed gardens and nine international garden galleries, each representing a distinct cultural tradition. In the Chinese Garden, you'll find pavilions, a pagoda, and a carefully composed water feature rooted in centuries of garden philosophy. The Japanese Garden offers a contemplative space with its own tea house and seasonal plantings. The Balinese Garden immerses you in tropical greenery, carved stone figures, and the atmosphere of temple courtyards. The Korean Garden reflects the Confucian traditions of scholarly retreat with pavilions overlooking a pond.
