AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Delta — known in Catalan as *des Delta* and on activity tours as *Los Deltas* — is not a postcard sand beach but a short, rugged stretch of rocky coast on the southern edge of the Bay of Palma, at Puig de Ros / Maioris in the municipality of Llucmajor. Measuring only about 200 metres long and 10 metres wide, it is a cliff-bound bathing area where the sea has sculpted natural pools, ledges and small coves out of the old sandstone shore. What it lacks in golden sand it makes up for in clear, undisturbed water and a reputation as one of the south coast's best snorkelling spots.↗↗↗
Its name comes from the long-standing Delta Hotel on the cliff above, and the same headland today is crowned by the Mhares Sea Club beach club, built into the abandoned marés quarries that once supplied the stone for Palma Cathedral. For travellers who would rather swim among rocks and reef fish than sprawl on sand, Delta offers a quieter, more natural slice of Mallorca's coast — with one of the island's most beautiful sunsets for a backdrop.↗↗
