AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Sender Blau is a short, atmospheric coastal path that threads through the Palància River delta, linking the beaches of Port de Sagunt and Canet d'en Berenguer on the Valencia coast. Opened in 2020 and certified as a national "Blue Path" in 2026, it offers walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers a rare stretch of Mediterranean shoreline where wild sand, reedbed lagoons and the open sea meet without a single car engine in sight.↗↗↗
What Makes It Special
The 745-metre path was built as a sensitive piece of landscape restoration across the degraded fringe between two seaside towns. Designed with natural gravel surfaces rather than intrusive boardwalks, it hugs the coastline with the Mediterranean on one side and the marshy remnants of the Palància delta on the other — a mosaic of reeds, olive trees, stone pines and washingtonia palms. The project was funded entirely by Spain's national grid operator as compensation for laying a submarine power cable to Mallorca, turning infrastructure necessity into a public amenity that the municipality proudly calls a "jewel beside the Mediterranean."
