AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Imagine dropping into a fresh powder face with the jagged summit of Ushba filling the horizon, no lift queue in sight, and a nine-and-a-half-kilometre descent back toward your guesthouse door. That is a normal morning at Tetnuldi Ski Resort, perched on the slopes of Greater Caucasus peaks in Georgia's Upper Svaneti region. Named after the 4,870-metre Mt. Tetnuldi that looms to the east, this is the freeride capital of the South Caucasus — a place where deep, untouched snow and dramatic mountain scenery replace the manicured predictability of Alpine mega-resorts.↗↗↗
Since opening in 2016, Tetnuldi has earned a reputation far larger than its physical footprint. It hosts qualifying rounds of the Freeride World Tour, draws backcountry skiers from across Europe, and remains small enough that you might share a gondola ride with no more than a handful of other riders. For anyone who prefers wide-open bowls to packed pistes, the high Caucasus delivers something genuinely rare: world-class terrain without the world-class crowds.↗↗
