AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Argassi Beach — known in Greek simply as Paralia Argasi (Παραλία Αργάσι) — is the long, sandy shoreline that gives the resort village of Argassi its reason to exist. Lapped by the Ionian Sea on Zakynthos's south-east coast, just three to four kilometres from the island's capital, it pairs a gently shelving, child-friendly stretch of sand with one of the most photogenic quirks on the island: a crumbling old bridge standing in the shallows offshore.↗↗↗
Though narrow, the beach unrolls for well over a kilometre along the resort, so it rarely feels claustrophobic even in high summer, and the water has been rated 'Excellent' for swimming in every season on record. Backed by the rising flank of Mount Skopos and lined with beach bars, restaurants and a watersports centre, it suits families, leisurely sunbathers and anyone who wants swimming, a lively strip of shops and easy access to Zakynthos Town all within a short walk.↗↗↗
