AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Baracara Falls—also known as White Water Falls—is one of Guyana's most approachable river waterfalls, a broad, low cascade that tumbles over a series of rock steps and ledges on the Mazaruni River in Region 7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), near the community of St. Edwards Mission. Unlike the thundering single drop of Kaieteur far to the south, Baracara is gentle and intimate: cool, clear water spilling across smooth stone into shallow pools you can actually swim in.↗↗↗
It reaches you the same way most of Guyana's interior does—by water. The falls sit on the Mazaruni, roughly opposite the Aruwai Resort, and the classic approach is a speedboat from Bartica up the river, or one of the day tours that run down the Essequibo from Parika and turn into the Mazaruni. That river journey past forest-lined banks and small communities is half the pleasure, and it's why visitors rate Baracara a must-see slice of Amazonian Guyana close enough to the coast for a single outing.↗↗
