AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Bedono Mangrove Charm (Wisata Pesona Mangrove Bedono, or PMB) is a community-run mangrove forest and walking track on the Kali Pengarakan river in Bedono village, Sayung, Demak Regency, on Central Java's north coast. What makes it special is its setting: a young, thriving mangrove stand planted to hold back the sea, threaded by a boardwalk that runs deep into the trees toward a small riverside pier. It is an easy-going nature stop rather than a polished attraction—good for a slow walk, birds, sunset and seafood.↗↗↗
The forest here is also a quiet survival story. Bedono sits on a coast badly hit by tidal flooding, land subsidence and erosion, and the village lost large stretches of dry land to the sea within a generation. Mangrove planting became the emergency fix that slowed the erosion and blunted the sea wind, turning a damaged shoreline into both a greenbelt and a tourist attraction tended by villagers and conservation partners.↗↗
