AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Set in the Khanjanpur quarter of Betul, Madhya Pradesh, Dadaji Dhuniwale Kuti is a small but deeply venerated shrine dedicated to the wandering saint Dadaji Dhuniwale, revered by devotees as an incarnation of Shiva. Its heart is a dhuni — a sacred fire said to have burned here almost without interruption since the early 1930s — and the kuti (hut) that shelters it has become one of the district's most active centres of everyday faith.↗↗↗
The shrine draws visitors not for grand architecture but for intimacy: wooden sandals (padukas) and an old photograph of the saint, votive offerings left by petitioners, and a steady stream of families who treat the place as a household of the spirit. Darshan is held in the cool of the morning, and the whole community turns out for the annual Guru Purnima fair, when a palanquin procession ends at the kuti and tonnes of prasad are distributed.↗↗
