AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Spiaggia Lago di Pusiano — also known locally as Lido Moiana — is a small, unpretentious swimming beach on the western shore of Lake Pusiano, the largest of Brianza's glacial lakes. Tucked between reed beds and green hills beneath Monte Cornizzolo, this quiet stretch of pebbly-and-sandy shoreline offers locals and passing travelers a peaceful place to cool off, paddle, or simply sit by the water in the heart of Lombardy's lake country.↗↗
The beach sits within the Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro, a protected area that keeps the lake's surroundings lush and largely undeveloped. Officially designated as a monitored bathing site, it has consistently earned an excellent water-quality classification — though occasional summer algal blooms can temporarily restrict swimming, so checking local signage before entering the water is always wise.↗↗
What Makes It Special
Lake Pusiano is one of Italy's best-kept secrets among the north's smaller water bodies. Unlike its famous neighbours Como and Maggiore, this 5-kilometre glacial lake has no crowds, no jet-ski noise, and no five-star waterfront hotels. Instead, it offers something rarer: a calm mirror of water framed by continuous reed beds, soft hills, and the Prealpine ridges that glow gold at sunset. The poet Giuseppe Parini was born on its shores and wrote lovingly of its salubrious air; the painter Giovanni Segantini set one of his masterpieces here. Standing on this small beach at Merone, you get the same intimacy with nature that drew those artists centuries ago.
