AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the city of Iwaki, Iwaki Flower Center is a vast 26-hectare garden in Fukushima Prefecture with roughly 600 species and 50,000 plants blooming through every season. Admission is free, making it one of the region's most rewarding outdoor escapes for families, walkers, and flower lovers alike.↗↗
From spring plum and cherry blossoms to summer hydrangeas, autumn kochia and cosmos, and winter-to-spring camellias along a forested hiking trail, the park offers year-round reasons to visit. A dome-shaped tropical greenhouse, an English-style lavender garden, and a children's play area add variety to every stroll.↗↗
A Hilltop Garden with Ocean Views
The center sits on the slopes of Mount Ishimori, where the elevation opens panoramic views south toward the Pacific and across Iwaki's urban sprawl. The rest house, positioned at a high point in the park, is a favorite spot to sit with a drink and look out over the garden below. A coin-operated telescope near the main gate lets visitors scan the coastline on clear days.
