AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Whale Ecology Experience Hall (고래생태체험관) in Jangsaengpo, Ulsan, is South Korea's first dolphinarium and the liveliest stop in the city's whale-themed waterfront cluster. Housed in a three-story building inside Jangsaengpo Maritime Park, it pairs an underwater dolphin tunnel and sea-creature aquariums with a hands-on animal zoo and a 4D whale theater, making it a favorite for families with children.↗↗↗
Opened in November 2009 in a former whaling port, the hall frames the dolphin tanks and ecology exhibits around a diorama of old Jangsaengpo village life, so visitors trace the town's whaling past, its marine-ecology present and its conservation-minded future in a single visit that runs about an hour and a half.↗↗↗

Ulsan's Jangsaengpo neighborhood was once the base of Korea's whaling industry, and when commercial whaling was banned in 1986 the town reinvented itself as a 'Whale City.' The Whale Ecology Experience Hall, opened on 24 November 2009 within Jangsaengpo Maritime Park, is the heart of that transformation: not a museum of harpoons but a working aquarium where dolphins, sharks, sea turtles and salt- and freshwater tropical fish swim on display. Its claim to fame is being the country's first dolphinarium.
