AT A GLANCE
Why go?
On the coast at Teluk Batik near Lumut, the Vale Eco Centre is a 715-acre slice of lowland rainforest and shoreline thrown open to the public for free. Set aside by mining giant Vale and run by the ecotourism NGO ECOMY, it preserves a rare coastal forest where jungle meets the sea—home to more than 100 plant species, over 125 bird species (including the great hornbill), and eight species of hard coral just offshore.↗↗
The draw is the marked forest trails: a gentle coastal route that runs out to Teluk Batik beach and a longer waterfall trek, with a briefing station at the hilltop and again where the path reaches the sand. Visitors register at the reception, follow the signposted loops (allow around two and a half hours), and practise minimum-impact tourism—plastics are banned inside the park.↗↗
Open every day from 8.30am to 5.30pm and easily combined with a ferry crossing to jungle-clad Pangkor Island, the centre suits families, casual hikers and birdwatchers, especially if you arrive in the cool, active morning hours.↗
