Lac des Monts
Lac des Monts is a quiet public lake tucked into the Canton d'Orford, in Quebec's Eastern Townships, just minutes from the village of Orford and the bigger postcard lakes of Mont-Orford National Park. Rather than a developed beach destination, it earns its keep as one of the lakes of the Chaîne-des-Lacs (the Chain of Lakes): a calm, tree-ringed basin favoured by paddlers, anglers and the occasional nature photographer who wants a slower, less-crowded slice of the region's lake country. Its appeal lies in that very unpolished tranquility. A single municipal boat launch on chemin des Littorelles gives access to the water, and because motorized craft are managed through a controlled barrier, the lake keeps an air of calm that busier Townships lakes have lost. On clear days the surrounding heights—including the Mont des Trois-Lacs ridge—offer the best way to appreciate it, as the lake appears far below as one bright link in a whole string of ponds and lakes stretching toward Mont Chauve.
