Laodao He
The Laodao River (捞刀河) is Changsha's second-largest inland river, a right-bank tributary that threads down from the forested peaks of Liuyang and joins the Xiang in the city's north. About 141–149 km long with a basin covering roughly a fifth of Changsha, it is less a single sight to photograph than the green spine of the city's north — a waterway whose name, legends and banks are woven into local life. What makes it worth a visit is its character: a storied name, a riverfront reborn from pollution to walkable greenery, and, further upstream, a source region of plunging waterfalls and red-rock hills. Read the river as a whole — from the quiet confluence where it slips into the mighty Xiang to the mountain valleys where it begins — and you get a more intimate, local view of Changsha than the usual city landmarks offer.
