Lizumer Reckner
The Lizumer Reckner is the highest mountain in the Tux Alps, a dark, rock-ribbed summit of 2,886 m that crowns the group between Innsbruck and the Zillertal. For hikers and climbers it is the prize at the end of a demanding high-alpine day, and on a clear morning the view sweeps across some of the grandest names in the Eastern Alps. What makes the Reckner special is its character as much as its height. Built from serpentinite — a dense, dark-green to near-black rock — the summit block rises abruptly above grassy slopes and scree, so the very last push to the cross calls for scrambling and a head for heights rather than a mere trail walk. Most people pair it with the neighbouring Geier (2,857 m), the second-highest Tux peak, for a single circuit that delivers the two finest viewpoints in the range.
