Warunqucha
Warunqucha—spelled Huaroncocha in its hispanicized form—is a large, remote lake set on the high puna plateau of the Pasco Region in Peru's central Andes, sitting at roughly 4,587 m (about 15,049 ft). Stretching some 9 km long and up to 2.61 km wide, it is the kind of wide, wind-swept expanse of dark water that defines the altiplano landscape: open grassland, cold clean air and, on clear days, glittering peaks on the horizon. The lake lies in Huayllay District, Pasco Province, and is best approached as part of a journey through this highland corner of central Peru—an area known as much for its stone-sculpted hillsides and mining heritage as for its scatter of puna lakes. Warunqucha itself is undeveloped and little-visited, appealing to travellers who want raw Andean altitude scenery rather than a curated site.
