Shibi Shan
Shibi Mountain (石壁山), at 1,751 meters, is the highest peak in Yunlin County, Taiwan, and a member of the island's celebrated Small Hundred Peaks list (#55). Tucked in the remote Shibi hamlet of Caoling Village in Gukeng Township, it sits on the spine of the Alishan Range where the borders of Yunlin, Nantou, and Chiayi counties converge. The approach trail is a lush, shade-draped loop through endless Moso bamboo forest, and the summit area opens into a broad, flat clearing perfect for a restful pause among the trees. Beyond the peak itself, the surrounding Shibi–Caoling highland is a treasure trove of natural wonders: the dramatic Cape of Good Hope cliff viewpoint overlooking layered Alishan ridges and the winding Qingshui Creek, the whimsical Shibi Fairy Valley with its legends and bamboo architecture, and the newer Cloud Ridge Hill observation deck offering 360-degree panoramas of sea of clouds and sunrise. The region is also known for award-winning highland coffee, a three-century-old Sacred Camphor Tree, and Penglai Waterfall, once counted among the Ten Views of Caoling.
