Wat Nanthawan (Nong Khao Ngai)
Wat Nanthawan (Nong Khao Ngai) is a quiet village temple and meditation centre set among shady grounds in the rice-country of Sra Phang Lan, U Thong District, Suphan Buri. Far from the package-tour circuit, it offers travellers the unhurried rhythm of a working Thai monastery — an ordination hall, Thai-style monk's quarters and a forested compound where the only agenda is merit-making and stillness. Its unusual name tells the story of how it began. The site was once an overgrown, waterless patch ringed by bamboo, unfit for farming, where pioneer settlers stopped to eat breakfast by a local pond. In the Lao Song (Tai Dam) dialect of the area that morning meal was called 'khao ngai', giving the pond and the growing hamlet their name — 'Nong Khao Ngai', the morning-rice pond.
