Vemulawada
Vemulawada is a small town in Telangana's Rajanna Sircilla district that punches far above its weight in Indian spiritual and literary history. Known as Dakshina Kasi — the Banaras of the South — it has drawn pilgrims for over a thousand years to its great Shiva temple, and once served as the capital of a powerful Chalukya dynasty whose court nurtured the earliest flowering of Kannada and Telugu literature. Today Vemulawada is a working pilgrimage town rather than a tourist circuit stop. Its compact temple complex sits beside a large sacred tank, and the rhythm of daily life revolves around darshan, ritual baths in the holy Pushkarini waters, and the thundering crowds that arrive each Maha Shivaratri.
