Subida para chapada

Subida para chapada is a hiking route on the rural edge of Itapajé, in Ceará's interior, and its name tells you the whole story: it is the climb out of the valley town and up onto the surrounding chapada—that flat-topped plateau and escarpment of the sertão highlands that rings the city. Itapajé sits about 130 km inland from Fortaleza, tucked into a valley boxed in by mountains. Hikers here use dirt tracks and trails to leave the heat of the lowlands behind and gain the cooler ridge tops, trading the town below for wide panoramas and the granite outcrops that give the region its character.
