Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden
Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is the largest zoo in North-eastern India, sprawling across 175 hectares within the Hengrabari Reserved Forest in the heart of Guwahati. Home to over 1,125 animals, birds and reptiles representing more than 115 species — including rare and endemic creatures found nowhere else on Earth — it doubles as a botanical garden and a verdant "green lung" for the city. Established in 1957 from a humble animal display at a political conference, it has grown into a serious ex-situ conservation centre, a rescue hub for stranded wildlife, and one of Assam's most beloved family destinations.
