Bolshaya Sulecha (Oly Sülechä)
Bolshaya Sulecha (Tatar Oly Sülechä) is a long, slow meandering river of Western Zakamye in the Republic of Tatarstan, a right tributary of the Bolshoy Cheremshan that drains into the Volga. Stretching 117.2 kilometres across a gently rolling lowland plain, it is the kind of unhurried country river that gives the rural south-west of Tatarstan its quiet, watery character. What makes it worth knowing is its protected status: since 1978 Bolshaya Sulecha has been registered as a nature monument of the Republic of Tatarstan. That official recognition, together with its wide floodplain, steep wooded right bank and broad valley, gives it real value as a landscape of natural riverside scenery rather than a built-up attraction.
