御霊神社(みたまじんじゃ)
Mitama Shrine (御霊神社, Mitama-jinja) is a small Shinto shrine tucked into the Kiyomidai hillside of Kisarazu, Chiba, beside a neighborhood park. Its recorded deity and founding are unknown, and it is not a grand tourist site—but locally it has a quiet claim to fame: from an open ground on its west side you can look out over the lights of Kisarazu and the Tokyo Bay waterfront. The shrine keeps the everyday character of a community guardian: a sacred tree, weathered koma-inu lion-dog guardians, small Jizo statues, a mossed hand-water basin and an old stone side-shrine. The appeal here is gentle rather than monumental—a short visit that rewards you most after sunset, when the town below begins to glow.
