Lake Belvedere
Lake Belvedere is a calm, bird-fringed lake set in the Village Green area of Bicentennial Park, within the 430-hectare Sydney Olympic Park precinct. A smooth, mostly flat loop of about 1.1 km circles its shores, linking native gardens, a long viewing jetty and an overwater walkway, making it one of the easiest and most rewarding green escapes in Sydney's inner west. What draws people back is the wildlife. The lake's central island is a protected breeding refuge, so black swans, purple swamphens and flocks of cormorants, ibis and spoonbills gather just metres from the path, while turtles and native fish live in the water below. Pair the loop with a picnic on the grassy banks, a climb up the nearby Treillage Tower, or a longer wander through the park's mangroves and waterbird refuge, and Lake Belvedere becomes the centrepiece of an effortless half-day outdoors.
