Vila de Algodoal - Ilha de Maiandeua
Vila de Algodoal is a car-free fishing village on Maiandeua Island in Pará's Atlantic coast, reachable only by a 40-minute boat crossing from Marudá. Known as the "Island of Reggae," it pairs 14 kilometres of white-sand beach with freshwater lagoons, shifting dunes, mangrove channels and a culture shaped by Amazonian ribeirinho traditions and Jamaican rhythms. Classified on Google Maps as a hiking area, Algodoal rewards walkers with shaded forest trails to hidden lagoons, ridge-line paths across dune crests, and a six-kilometre coastal trail linking four villages. Electricity arrived only in 2005; motor vehicles remain banned under the island's 1990 environmental protection designation, making the silence and slow pace genuine.
