Onogawafudotaki Falls

Onogawa Fudo Falls (Onogawafudotaki) is Urabandai's largest waterfall—a 25-meter curtain of spring-fed water crashing into a gorge in Kitashiobara village, in Fukushima's western highlands within Bandai-Asahi National Park. Tucked upstream of Lake Onogawa and reached by a short forest walk, it packs a remarkable punch for the time it takes to get there, which is exactly why it has earned a 4.5-star reputation among travelers exploring this lake-and-waterfall corner of old Aizu. The falls are famous less for grand scale than for character: clean, cold water drawn from a celebrated spring, a deep religious history as a mountain-austerity site, and a face that changes with every season—from thundering snowmelt in spring, to cooling summer mist, to glowing autumn foliage and an eerie blue icefall in winter.
