Schlossgarten Charlottenburg
Stretching north from Charlottenburg Palace toward the River Spree, the Schlossgarten is Berlin's most beautiful baroque garden and a 55-hectare masterpiece that has grown and evolved over more than 300 years. Commissioned in 1695 by the cultured Electress Sophie Charlotte and laid out by Siméon Godeau—a pupil of Versailles' legendary André Le Nôtre—it was one of the first French-style baroque gardens in the German-speaking world. Today it is a free, daily-open refuge of geometric parterres, ancient trees, romantic ponds and elegant pavilions that Berliners and visitors alike treat as the city's grandest outdoor salon.
