Pyrgaki beach
Pyrgaki Beach is a wide, wind-sheltered stretch of golden sand on the southwestern coast of Naxos, about 20 kilometres from the main town. Known for its shallow turquoise water, soft sand that extends far into the sea, and a backdrop of cedar trees and sand dunes, it feels like an escape from the more organised beaches closer to Chora. The beach is actually a succession of three sandy coves, protected from the northerly Meltemi winds that can roughen up other Naxos beaches. With views across to the islands of Iraklia and Ios, a NATURA 2000 conservation designation, and enough room to spread out even in August, Pyrgaki rewards those willing to go a little further down the coast road.
