Hozumishinreisha
Tucked behind the main hall of Ishikiri-Tsurugiya Shrine in Higashiosaka, Osaka, Hozumi Shinreisha is a small but atmospheric shrine reached through a corridor of vermillion torii gates. Dedicated to protection from illness, warding off misfortune, and academic success, it draws worshippers seeking these specific blessings. The shrine commemorates the Hozumi-dō, a building that once stood here as a village school founded in the early Meiji period by the 104th head priest of Ishikiri Shrine. After the original structure burned down in 1970, the divine spirits enshrined within were re-enshrined at this site, creating the small shrine that exists today.
