Vaniköy Mosque
Vaniköy Mosque is a 17th-century Ottoman wooden mosque perched on the Bosphorus waterfront on Istanbul's Asian side, where the sound of waves mingles with prayer in a setting of extraordinary natural beauty. Built in 1670 by the scholar Vani Mehmed Efendi during the reign of Sultan Mehmed IV, it served for over three centuries as the spiritual heart of its neighborhood until a devastating fire in November 2020 nearly destroyed it. Meticulously restored and reopened in June 2023 using original materials — oak from Yenice, pine from Dursunbey, and marble from Marmara Island — the mosque now rises again with its historic silhouette against the Bosphorus, welcoming worshippers and visitors alike.
