Statehouse Lake
Statehouse Lake is a small, clear glacial lake in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods, tucked among white pines just outside the village of Manitowish Waters in Vilas County. At just 21 acres with a maximum depth of 18 feet, it's an intimate lake — the kind where you can hear loons calling across still water at dusk and spot bass cruising the weedy shallows from shore. The lake's greatest asset is its relationship with the North Lakeland Discovery Center, a 66-acre nature sanctuary that wraps around its shore. The Center provides the primary public access point, waterfront amenities, and a calendar of paddling, wildlife, and outdoor programming that makes Statehouse Lake far more than just a dot on a fishing map.
