Nizhnyaya Kama National Park
Nizhnyaya Kama National Park protects vast pine forests, floodplain meadows, and dramatic river bluffs along the lower Kama in the Republic of Tatarstan. Established in 1991 and spanning over 26,000 hectares, it is one of Russia's most visited national parks and the living landscape that inspired the great painter Ivan Shishkin. The park weaves together nature and cultural memory: ship forests once reserved for Peter the Great's navy, Perm-period geological cliffs called Krasnaya Gorka, holy springs still visited by pilgrims, and open-air meadows teeming with birdsong. Well-marked eco-trails and water routes make the park accessible year-round without any special physical preparation.
