Samnaksong Ban Sa YaiMonastery

Samnaksong Ban Sa Yai

Samnaksong Ban Sa Yai (สำนักสงฆ์บ้านสระใหญ่) is a small, working Theravada Buddhist monastery set in the quiet village of Ban Sa Yai on the edge of Bo Rai, a former gem-mining town in Trat Province in eastern Thailand. A samnaksong is a monastic residence one step less formal than a full wat, and this one keeps the unhurried, local feel of a forest-edge temple where villagers rather than tour buses come to make merit. It is not a monument of grand architecture or curated history, but a place of atmosphere: simple worship halls, monks' quarters and open ground shaded by trees, well regarded by the handful of visitors who have stopped by. For travellers exploring inland Trat away from the islands, it offers a glimpse of ordinary rural Thai devotion.
