Hermanus New Harbour
Hermanus New Harbour is the town's working fishing port on the western edge of Walker Bay, where commercial boats come and go, seals bask around the slipways and the whale-watching fleet casts off for the bay. It is a far less polished, far more authentic waterfront than the museum-like Old Harbour in the centre, and it is where most visitors actually get on the water to see Southern Right Whales. Tucked off Westcliff Road beside the Zwelihle side of town, the harbour pairs a real fishing-harbour atmosphere with harbourfront restaurants, a lively Saturday craft-and-fish market and departure points for boat and catamaran cruises. Come in the morning for working-boat activity, at golden hour for a sunset sail, or simply to walk the wharf and scan the bay.
