Global Stone Project
Tucked on a long-grass meadow in Berlin's Tiergarten, between Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate, the Global Stone Project is a ring of enormous, mirror-polished boulders gathered from all five continents. Sculptor and world-sailor Wolfgang Kraker von Schwarzenfeld spent twelve years seeking out, carving and transporting the stones to turn a single open-air installation into what he calls a gesture of hope, love, forgiveness and peace. It is free to visit, always open and wheelchair accessible, and quietly one of the city's most unusual pieces of public art: a handful of glowing rocks set beside the Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial and the famous Goethe statue, each one carrying a continent's story.
