Valdeka castle
Valdeka Palace (Valdekas pils) is a romantic Neo-Gothic landmark on the edge of Jelgava's centre, its restored silhouette and surrounding grounds offering a quiet, free stop for anyone exploring the old Courland capital. Built in the 17th century and given its current castle-like look in the 1860s, it today serves the Landscape Architecture department of Latvia's University of Life Sciences and Technologies. One thing to know before you go: the palace interior is a working university teaching building and is not open to public tours. What you can enjoy is the exterior architecture and the park-like grounds around it, which are accessible to visitors at any time, free of charge.
