Grassy Range
Grassy Range is a quiet, forested spine of high ground in the Siskiyou Mountains of southwest Oregon, on the Jackson County side of the Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest. Reaching about 5,157 ft (1,572 m) at its high point, it is not a developed lookout or a postcard summit but a working backcountry landmark — one of dozens of named ridges that make up the wild, road-sparse country north of Cave Junction. For hikers, hunters and forest travelers it is a compass point on the map rather than a destination with a trailhead sign. What gives Grassy Range its appeal is exactly that remoteness. It sits in a botanically rich corner of the Siskiyous, between the Illinois Valley and the high divide that separates the Rogue and Umpqua river drainages, where open grassy ridgetops, mixed conifer forest and a famously diverse wildflower season define the landscape. It is a place to pass through, to climb a shoulder of, or to use as context while exploring the established trails and campgrounds that ring it.
