Jäälinjärvi
Lake Jäälinjärvi is the scenic heart of Jääli, a fast-growing residential district of Oulu in northern Finland. At roughly 93 hectares with a shoreline of nearly 8 kilometres, this modest but prized lake is a rarity on the largely lakeless coastal plain of North Ostrobothnia — and for the 4,000 residents whose homes crowd its banks, it is the neighbourhood's living room. The lake offers year-round recreation: a well-maintained public beach with sauna and changing facilities in summer, some of the best-rated swimming water in all of Oulu, excellent pike and perch fishing accessible free of charge under Finnish Everyman's Rights, and ice fishing in winter. A dedicated local conservation association has spent over a decade restoring the lake's ecology and building community events around it.
